coyote We love our dogs. We love their soulful eyes, their goofy play bows, and those expressive eyebrows. As a natural extension of that love and respect, we also love our dog’s wild counterparts; their canid cousins: coyotes. So why do coyotes have such a bad rap? BC Election: A mixed message

BC electionOne of our supporters, Diane Haynes, said it best, "We BC-ers certainly sent mixed messages to our governmental leaders yesterday. We care, but not enough to vote. We prefer the values of the NDP, but we're going to stick with letting the Liberals lead us ... oh, except our Premier: she can't get into the Legislature because we didn't elect her in her own riding."

Sign our petition. Ban the leg-hold trap!

leg hold trap posterSign our petition to ban the leg hold trap! Trapping is an inherently violent practice that is as unnecessary as it is cruel. All leg hold traps are designed to hold a wild animal who does not want to be caught. As such, many animals die trying to free themselves, as well as from dehydration, blood loss and hypothermia. Many animals become so desperate, they resort to chewing or wringing off their own trapped limb in order to escape, breaking teeth and bones in the process.

Urge BC to become a leader in the humane treatment of wildlife. Help ban the leg hold trap!

Red-Fox-red-foxes-13290504-1600-1200Supporters beware: not all wildlife ‘protection’ groups were created equally. People are routinely shocked when they learn that some of the most internationally recognized wildlife organizations actually support hunting and trapping. In an effort to promote transparency, we’ve compiled a short list of wildlife organizations that most people don’t realize actually supports/endorses the killing of the wildlife they claim to protect.

What to do if you find a seal on the beach?

babysealSource: BC SPCA
Like many other wild animals, seal mothers leave their pups alone for short periods of time while they return to the water to look for food. For this reason, wildlife rehabilitation centres care for many "kidnapped" seal pups each year – healthy pups that are mistakenly thought to be orphaned or abandoned. What to do if you find an orphaned or injured baby seal?
